Bayern is looking for defensive reinforcements in winter. To finance this wish, two stars could soon leave the champion record.
Munich – In keeping with its own image, FC Bayern is slowly but surely returning to the top of the table. And so far everything in the Champions League is going according to plan. The only negative point in Bayern’s promising sporting world is its elimination in the second round of the DFB Cup. The bitter knockout was made worse by the fact that Matthijs de Ligt had to be substituted after 25 minutes due to a torn medial ligament.
Bayern’s defense, which was already weak, has become even weaker. This should change during the winter break with external reinforcements. These could also be financed by selling second line players.
Lewandowski’s permanent reserve and replacement may leave FC Bayern
According to the information, the two players to whom FC Bayern would not put any obstacles are: Image around Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Bouna Sarr. Choupo-Moting, who surprised as Lewandowski’s replacement last year, had his contract extended in March for another year until June 2024, and is now allowed to leave.
The situation is completely different for Sarr, who was presented with a four-year contract by then sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic in 2020. The Senegalese international never managed to impress in an FCB shirt and at times was even left out completely. Two long periods of inactivity did the rest.
The last transfer opportunity for Bayern
It seems certain that neither of them will receive a new contract offer. This would mean that the stars’ free transfer next summer would be sealed and Bayern would be left without a transfer fee. The last chance to generate revenue with Sarr and Choupo-Moting is the upcoming winter transfer window.
Plus, the record champions would save a lot of money. Choupo-Moting’s salary is said to have increased to €10 million, including bonuses, when he was extended. Bouna Sarr is said to earn three million euros a year. If both leave the club in winter, the joint salary savings alone would mean a “benefit” of up to 6.5 million euros for FCB.
Bayern needs money for defensive expansions
FCB sporting director Christoph Freund could use the money because, according to him, new additions are being worked on for three positions. The six, the central defense and also the right back should be reinforced. An advertisement that only at second glance shows how dissatisfied people apparently are with Bouna Sarr. His usual position is right back.
Choupo-Moting, on the other hand, enjoys great prestige on Säbener Straße, but behind the big star Harry Kane and the young Mathys Tel he is only number three in Bayern’s attack. As Image A potential buyer has reportedly already knocked on the door, but Eintracht Frankfurt abstained. The reason: the forward’s enormous salary. (sh)
